Let Your Light Shine: A Journey of Self-Discovery.
These days on the beautiful island of Paros, Greece, I often wake up with a burst of inspiration
—an idea waiting to be written. This morning was no different, but before diving into my
thoughts, I wanted to take a moment to meditate, clear my chakras, and elevate my energy in
preparation for my upcoming workshop in January.
As I settled into my meditation, the word “LIGHT” echoed in my mind.
Years ago, while training with Denise Linn in Soul Coaching in California (if you haven’t heard of
her, look her up! She’s authored numerous books and is a prominent figure in the Hay House
community—she’s truly inspiring), I experienced a profound moment during a Soul Journey.
We were in a training session, to learn how to guide individuals through a Soul Journey. ( I have
led many of these with individuals; it can be profound) I was lying beneath a massive Buddha
statue, ready for my turn while three fellow students guided me through this meditative
experience. At that time, I had just endured a few intense days filled with emergencies back
home in Vermont concerning my daughter.
As I relaxed into the process, we began by describing our safe place—the sanctuary where we
feel at peace. When they asked me about my favorite place, I immediately thought of the
ocean. And so, the journey began. They gently guided me to the beach, counting each new
view along the way. I felt calm and open to the experience.
Then, they mentioned someone approaching from the beach. In my mind’s eye, I saw my
mother.
The guides encouraged me to invite her to sit with me, and I did. Then they asked, “Do you
have a question for her?”
I hesitated but finally asked, “Is it okay for me to shine, yet?”
To my surprise, my mother responded with shock, “Well, of course!” Her affirmation was so
strong that it sent a wave of energy through me. Suddenly, I felt my body expanding, lifting off
the ground as if I were the Goodyear Blimp, floating high above the earth. I became acutely
aware of my own fear—how would I return to my body?
I asked with my eyes still closed, the women guiding me, feeling both exhilarated and terrified.
“Can you help me get back into my body?” I asked, my heart racing.
They assured me, “We’ve got you. You don’t have to worry; we can bring you back.” (I am sure
I was having my own experience and I just looked like I was laying there with Buddha, just as I
had started) With their support, I thanked my mother for her words and time, bidding her
farewell as I watched her walk back up the beach.
As, they counted meditatively, I made my way back along the stone path to my body, I felt
transformed. When I finally returned, my crown chakra felt as if it had been blasted open. I
wanted to wear a hat all day to contain the energy swirling within me.
This experience shifted something deep inside me. For years, I had tried to hold back,
blending in rather than shining. Growing up with my mother, who often took up a lot of space, I
learned to keep my successes, accomplishments, and joys to myself. Now, I strive to embrace
my true self and shine, while still being mindful of those around me.
As a mother of two daughters, aged 37 and 38, I woke up today wondering if they feel
empowered to shine amidst all my swirling energy. I hope so, but I know that history has a way
of repeating itself.
How are you holding back? What is your true essence and are you living that truth?
So, I write this to encourage you:
Let your light shine bright! The earth and all its inhabitants need you!**
